Tissue Paper Pom Poms!

Literally the cheapest, easiest and girliest decorations I have come across, so I had to share! I'd been looking for a simple way to jazz up my room for ages and now with a few sheets of tissue paper I have been able to do so. Try pink and purple like me for a girly look which replicates bunched up roses, or try more colourful creations - would look great strung together as bunting at a party or even around the tree this christmas... perfect for the student budget!

DIRECTIONS:

I would explain but it's done so nicely here...

They also happen to match perfectly with my frilly flowery jumper.... yey!

A/W 13/14

Time to get shopping! This season is all about the dark florals.
Deep reds and plums were showcased at The London, Milan, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks, giving even the girliest dresses a grungy twist.

Elie Saab's usual 'fairy-esque' dresses were much more figure hugging and bold in the Ready-To-Wear collection at Paris Fashion Week

In Usual McQueen style the Ready-To-Wear collection was as unique as ever, I'm seriously loving these unusual skirt/trousers combination and look forward to seeing something available on the high street hopefully within my budget.

Leopard print? Move over, this Spring/Summer it's about the giraffe print! Featuring heavily in Stella McCartney's collection it gives off a more mature feel than the 'so last year' leopard print

With clear influence from Tudors- as shown more prominently through the headgear and the jewelry Valentino puts berry upon berry with the cape and shorts combo.

....However with a student budget it's nearly impossible to afford any of the beauties shown above, so I've decided to stick to the trend with an item a bit closer to my budget. Topshop.com offer a gorgeous Mohair Oval Coat by BOUTIQUE , with a retail price of £200.00 ITS EVEN MACHINE WASHABLE!

I'd wear this in a size bigger to follow the 'oversized coat' trend and team with a pair of statement pair of black knee high boots- (There are great ones available at New Look at the moment)

Festival Fever

Grab your wellies, tents and beer because festival season is here!
This weekend showed the likes of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung all supporting their favorite musicians in typical fashionable style at Glastonbury Festival.

Kate Moss, has set the perfect example of what to wear to Glastonbury for years and 2013 was no different. The off duty model teamed a Matchless leather jacket and Superfine jeans with boots and sunglasses to showcase her classic rock chick style.

Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge showing off their relationship in matching hats. This cutie couple are prime examples on how adding a bright patterned jacket to any simplistic outfit will give you the spotlight in a mosh pitt.

Rita Ora's off stage outfit is as beautiful as her on stage costumes, and with abs like hers who could blame her for not wanting to show them off.

Fashion Fetish

Fashion has never been about playing it safe, and festishes leaving the bedroom and entering the fashion world certainly is a daring trend - but harnesses, leather and caging within clothing can give a strong and exciting new look. Now I'm not suggesting that people should walk down the street all bondage-d up but give the trend a go, for example wear a bit more leather! Take a look at some designers who are really pushing this trend:

Chromat
Chromat is a brand based around sculpturing and emphasising shapes of the body in lattice-like caged structures. The architectural inspirations, from ex-architecture student turned designer Becca McCharen are evident, as are the sexual nature of the clothing, giving a sleek nod to the fetish trend.

BCBG Max Azria

BCBG Max Azria's big accessory that dominated their SS13 collection was the leather body harness. Shown in different shapes, over different clothing and emphasising different areas of the torso - the harness was a really exciting addition to the collection, completely transforming the simple clothing in a sexy yet classy way.

Fleet Ilya
For something a little more erotic, take a look at the jewellery from Fleet Ilya who, with their exceptional leather craftsmanship, 'blur the line between leather bondage and fashion accessories':

To celebrate this trend Fashion156.com are having fetish week - where they really dissect the trend by looking at more designers' work, examples on the runway, music videos and their fashion fetish icon Tony Ward. Take a look!

How To: Pastel Hair

From left: Katy Perry, Blake Lively, Chanel SS12 and Rachel McAdams
Inspired by the gorgeous hair above my friend (Amy) decided to dye her ash blonde hair a very subtle pale pink/lilac. After toying around with the idea of only dip dyeing the ends, I managed to convince her to just dye it all! After watching countless Youtube videos we chose the following steps in order to achieve the desired outcome:

STEP 1: PREPARING THE HAIR
Using 'Live Color XXL: Absolute Platinum OOA' prepare the dye and apply to dry unwashed hair. Leave on for the specified time as on the instructions. However we chose to keep it on for half an hour to accelerate the colour and to ensure even coverage.
Available for £3.99 from Superdrug
Wash out the dye when you feel you are satisfied with the colour, and apply conditioner as normal (This is important as bleaching can severely dry and damage the hair).

STEP 2: ADDING THE PASTEL COLOUR
A week later once all of the natural oils had revitalised the hair from the intensity of the bleach and it looked a little healthier, we added the semi-permenant dye. There were so many shades to choose from so we got a bit carried away and stayed in the shop for way over and hour trying to decide which would look the coolest. To achieve the best results with this dye, you're advised to shampoo the hair before the dye to allow the pigments to bind more readily to the hair. The instructions say to leave on for between 15-30 minutes as the longer it is left, the more intense the colour will be - with this in mind we left it in for an hour.. We applied the dye more into the roots to create a stronger colour here, almost the opposite effect to the popular dip-dye.

STEP 3: STYLING THE HAIR

I would advise that if you follow these steps you invest in a professional haircut afterwards just to take off the dry ends.

Neon for Spring/Summer 13

Neon is back and brighter than ever, and can be seen in different aspects of our wardrobes from accessories to outerwear. On hearing 'neon' I can't shake the (embarrassing) image of me as a youngster strutting around at a neon disco in those dreaded leg warmers from Primark... but like myself neon has grown up and is now a desperately sought after colour addition to my wardrobe.

SS 13 Catwalk Inspirations:

Looking back at the fashion week's of SS 13 it's clear to see that there's lots of different ways that neon can be worn but there are three main styles that jump out at me .
  • Twinning - matching top and bottoms
  • Neon florals
  • Statement colour worn with black/white
I particularly like Simone Rocha's neon florals which add a softer element to the dramatic in-your-face impact of the neon colouring. Cara Delvingne works her Simone Rocha dress with a clashing striped shirt - this shouldn't work but totally does! Then again Cara can pull off anything..Whilst I won't be going full on head-to-toe neon just yet, I have found a few great pieces, in particular handbags, which will ease me into the trend.

D.I.Y Nails

For those of us unable to grow and maintain beautiful long nails (such as myself), I find the best cure is to just hide them underneath thick layers of nail varnish!

I've been skeptical about the beauty products available in PRIMARK for some time, however for £1 I just couldn't resist trying these gold Leopard Nail Wraps. They take seconds to apply and have so far lasted three days without signs of chipping or peeling. Teamed with gold accessories and a darker nail colour, even leopard print can be classy.
